What do the qualification levels mean?
The easiest way to explain NZQA qualification levels is by comparison.
| Level | Equivalent to | Qualifications |
| Level 3 | Year 13 (7th Form) Secondary School and Basic Trades Training | Certificates |
| Level 4 | Advanced Trades Training | Certificates |
| Level 5 | First year university | Certificates and Diplomas |
| Level 6 | Second year university | Diplomas |
| Level 7 | University Degree | Degrees and Graduate Diplomas |
