This course offers an introduction to establishing an original Rock Band in the New Zealand music scene. Students will play together in a band, mentored by our top music tutors over 3 days. When booking, please specify which instrument your student plays or whether they sing.
Topics Include:
• Introduction to Band Management
• How to Get & Arrange Gigs
• The New Zealand Music Scene
• Practical Experience Playing in a Band
Tuesday 17th – Thursday 19th April 2012

Students will be introduced to the world of Sound Engineering, getting hands on experience and discovering opportunities for entering the Sound and Recording Industry. On completion of the assessment for this course, students will achieve US12823—Set up and disassemble small public address and recording systems for a performing arts situation.
Topics Include:
• Set up of a Small PA System
• Sound Mixing
• Set Up of a Recording System
• Recording a Performance
• Unit Standard: 2 Credits – Level 2

This course offers an introduction to the art of writing lyrics and composing music. The aim is to familiarise students with the industry requirements and educational prerequisites of people wanting a career in the music industry including composition.
Topics include:
• Formula/Form of Song Writing
• Writing the Lyrics
• Composing the Music
Thursday 15th – Friday 16th March 2012
Wednesday 6th – Thursday 7th June 2012
Students will be introduced to the basic concepts in child care and the role of an Early Childhood Education Worker. They will have the opportunity to discover the industry requirements and educational prerequisites for entering into each field of Early Childhood Education.
Topics Include:
• Introduction to Child Development
• Physical Care of Children
• Educational Activities
• Career Opportunities within the Industry
Tuesday 20th – Wednesday 21st March 2012
Wednesday 13th – Thursday 14th June 2012
Students will find out about the educational requirements for entering each field of the three Armed Services, along with the lifestyle and job opportunities. This course also includes a practical outdoor element. (Completion of this Short Course does not qualify students for entry into any of the Armed Services).

• Job Opportunities in the Armed Services
• Armed Services Role in the Community & Overseas
• Physical Training and Recreation
• Skills and Qualifications

Students will get the chance to create a simple website with the use of text, graphics and templates while discovering the industry’s educational opportunities and exploring pathways into the field of Web Page Design and Programming.

• Structure of the Internet & Websites
• HTML & CSS
• Web Design Software & Technology
• Working with Templates & Using Graphics
